BAAD Club Practice Protocol



Generally

·         The purpose of BAAD practice sessions is to provide an organized practice opportunity
under a trial-like setting.  As such, participating members will exercise and observe the same
considerations and etiquette as if each practice session were an actual trial.

·         One member will be assigned to be in charge for each practice.  Duties to include (1) Getting
the box with the Sign up/Running Order form and money box (2) Posting this protocol (3) Setting
the course (4) Putting the forms & money box away. (5) Enforcing the protocol & safety practices.



Dog Management

·         Dogs shall be on leashes or be kenneled (or placed in x-pens at all times except:  (1) when
on a start line; (2) when actually running a course; or (3) when using the practice jump as
designated by the person in charge.

·         Dogs will be kenneled or placed in x-pens with at least a 5 foot reach away from the entrance
gate.  

·         “Reactive” dogs will be identified as such by their handlers and may wear such identifying
items as bandanas (or other identification).  Other handlers will not approach any reactive dogs
without the expressed permission of such dogs’ handlers.

·         Handlers will not practice skills, play with their dogs, or otherwise engage in activities with
their dogs, except outside the gates and fences of the course arenas or during your course time.



Set-up and Take-down of Courses

Set-up of courses will begin at 6:30 p.m., or earlier, if person in charge of set-up and assisting
members are available.
In order to start practice sessions on time, members will plan to assist with set-up except for those
members who are unavailable at set-up time.
Members who are not available to help with the set-up will plan to be available for the take-down.
There will be one course set up for the 1st Tuesday of each month.  There will be 2 courses set up
for the succeeding Tuesdays of the month.


Course Walking

Course walking is to begin at 6:45, or when courses are ready for running, or when person in
charge determines that the courses are ready for running.
In the event that one course is ready, but the other is not, members will be available to assist in the
set-up in order to begin the practice session in a timely manner.


Course Running

No dogs allowed on the course or equipment prior to the in charge person arriving nor prior to
signing the Sign up/Running Order form.  
Members desiring to run a course, or courses, will sign in upon arrival before the practice session
begins, or as soon as the Sign up/Running Order from  is available.
Running order and course assignments will be established by the person in charge for those
members who have signed in.
Running order is: small dogs on odd days and tall dogs on even days.
The person in charge will make any necessary adjustment to the running order.
Each member will be at the gate to the assigned arena and ready to run on time, or forfeit the
opportunity to run.
2 course nights will have the courses run simultaneously.  Once all members have had the
opportunity to run the assigned course, then all such members will switch, as a group, to the other
course, if any.
Members present during the 2 course night may opt to vote for 1 course that night.  
Members will be available to serve as timers and bar setters.
Members will not run their dogs on a course to which they have not been assigned even if the
course is currently vacant.


Mentors

A mentoring system is part of the BAAD club practice sessions.
Any novice member may request a mentor by signing up for such when signing in at the beginning
of the practice session.
A mentor may be on the course with and assist the novice member in running the course.
Only the designated mentor will offer advice to the novice member.


Comment and Concerns

All comments and concerns will be communicated to a member of the board, as soon as possible,
either verbally, by telephone, email or USPS.


Housekeeping

Always clean up after your dog
BAAD’s use of the Desert Sage facilities includes (1) closing the exterior property gates when the
practices session is concluded (last person out must close the gate when there is a functioning
gate); (2) turning off the lights for the arenas.  (3) pickup any obvious trash or items left.
